PLease aLLow me to sink one more time, but I swear I wiLL not drown.
PLease aLLow me to sink one more time, but I swear I wiLL not drown.
PLease aLLow me to sink one more time, but I swear I wiLL not drown.
So. Another One OK Rock post, I’m sorry, but I just couLdn’t resist.
If you haven’t heard One OK Rock’s Latest aLbum ‘Ambitions’, go away. Or read on, if you’re curious, or whatever.
Ambitions >> This may be the most boring intro track by OOR so far
Bombs Away >> Do they reaLLy need this much effects and autotune? Oh yeay Japanese lyrics!
Taking Off >> This is Like RADWIMPS’ Zen Zen Zense. Not a bad song, but too generic to be called OOR’s better song. Other bands with lower quality and level could make this song their good song, but this is definitely not OOR’s better song.
We Are >> I can see why some people said this song “speaks to me in a spiritual level”. The ‘feels’ reminds me of Clock Strikes, and Nobody’s Home too, but musically it’s still inferior to both. And, NHK 18sai Fes version is still the best.
20/20 >> What was that?
Always Coming Back >> I’ve come to appreciate this song.
Bedroom Warfare >> Livin’ La Vida Loca is giving me a major headache.
Lost In Tonight >> I think this has some potentials, but Taka sounds drunk.
I Was King >> When am I when am I gonna kill this feeling of dread whenever I heard OOR is going to release something new?
Listen >> I’m more interested with the behind-the-scene story of this song. How did Toru react when Avril’s in? XD
One Way Ticket >> If they pLay this song Live and I happen to be going, I wouLd just stood there awkwardly, not sure what to do.
Bon Voyage >> What the hell is this mess? And who’s singing?
Start Again >> Oh this is quite good. Just Lose the O-o-oh.
Take What You Want >> I reaLLy need to pee.
Secret Track >> Like the intro, this may be the most boring Secret Track by OOR, BUT this is hands down the best track of the entire aLbum.
I think what I wrote in 35XXXV first impression post couLd be appLied here, with sLight modification:
Okay, from the generaL popuLation point of view, stoicaLLy speaking, this is a good pop rock aLbum
from One OK RockaLthough they couLd tone down the production and effects. And I think they shouLd beef up the Lyrics. I can see tweens and middLe schooLers digging this, but the band wiLL face stiff competition as there are thousands other western bands thand sound more or Less the same (with stronger Lyrics, I guess).
PersonaLLy speaking, this is NOT a good aLbum from One OK Rock. I hate this.
I might Love this if this had been reLeased 10 years ago.
HonestLy I am quite surprised that I find myseLf preferring 35XXXV than Ambitions. But I just.. I feLt so reLieved when Start Again started (weird sentence) and I finaLLy found a non pre-reLeased song that I Like. I was aLmost bored Listening to the other songs. I’m sad because of that.
WeLL this is onLy the first hearing. Maybe some other songs wiLL grow on me over time. Who knows.
I’m ending this post with a quote from a reviewer on Amazon Japan:
This conversation happened hours after One OK Rock’s Taking Off MV was reLeased.
UC >> Well, the video quality has increased somewhat.
Me >> Yeah, compared to the catastrophy that is Last Dance. But the stories are getting weirder and weirder.
UC >> But there’s a lesson we all can learn from the new MV.
Me >> What’s that?
UC >> Do not ever trust any stranger you just met who suddenly kiss you, no matter how handsome or pretty they are.
Me >> LoL.
UC >> Seriously, you wouldn’t want to blow up to pieces just because a stranger kiss you, right? Or even worse, they might turn you to a zombie..
Me >> You know what? I think there is a connection between Last Dance and Taking Off MV.
UC >> What’s that?
Me >> What if that girl was actuaLLy an aLien Left behind by those aLiens in Last Dance? You know, maybe they pLanted her on Earth to.. observe? That’s why she was chased by those gas maskies. Because she was an aLien. She had the power to expLode and destroy, but to activate that power she had to make intimate contact with a human being. Then that poor feLLow drive by.. and boom. Her aLien body dust wouLd get bLown everywhere by the wind, and any human being who made contact with that dust wouLd turn to zombies! That way, it wouLd be easier for the aLiens to conquer Earth!
UC >> Your imagination is surely too active. This is still office hour, right? Aren’t you supposed to be working?
Me >> Well I bet One OK Rock’s next MV wiLL have a zombie concept.
UC >> Yeah, just like how they turn us old fans into zombies wishing them to be good again.
I’m supposed to be sLeeping, but I know I wouLdn’t be abLe to before I got this out of my mind.
This ‘this’ is primariLy caused by the vocaList of a Japanese band I respect, Noda Yojiro of Radwimps, coLLaborating with the vocaList of one of my favorite band, Taka of One OK Rock, to raise donation for Kumamoto Earthquake.
To quote Noda-san:
Having the earthquake in Kumamoto, Kyushu region, I’ve been thinking what I can do. Still earth is shaking day-and-night and people could barely feel safe. At the same time, I’ve touched many warm feelings who struggle finding their way to help the victims.
And we decide to hold a donation campaign with our track.
With the wishes to light peace in victim’s heart, we sang this song. We’d like to distribute this song and deliver all the sales to affected area.
The project came to my mind with the song called ‘by my side’ which I sang with Taka at the last tour. Taka and I retook this track for this project. I’d like to thank Taka and the members of ONE OK ROCK.
You can choose the purchasing price of this track from 10 yen to 100 thousand yen. We will donate all the profits to the victims of this disaster. We appreciate if you set the price with your heart of support, sympathies, and the wishes to the people suffering from this disaster.
I’d like to express my deepest sympathies to the people who lost their precious ones. Every time I visit, you always give me more than I could give and I love the place. From the bottom of my heart, I hope the day in peace will come soon, quiet night and calm morning will come soon. We want to support and be with you in the long term.
Lastly, I’d like to thank our staffs and all of the people who joined and worked for this project.
All the artist income will be contribute to the appropriate organization. Recipient will be announced once it has determined.

Because Noda-san or his staff was kind enough to repLy to my stupid question on his post and for a moment made me feeL Like a speciaL speck of dust in the wind of gaLaxy
And because the originaL バイマイサイ is aLready beautifuL as it is and now is even more -SURREAL- with Taka’s voice.
If anybody is reading this, I urge you to go to Fannect and use your Yens for good.
Now I’m going to Listen to this non-stop whiLe trying too sLeep.
I swear this is not a One OK Rock bLog, but guess what my first post in 2016 wiLL be about? One OK Rock.
Because two days ago I SURVIVED ANOTHER ONE OK ROCK CONCERT WITH MY WHOLE BODY STILL IN ONE PIECE! Woo!
To cut the story short, me and a-gaL-Let’s-just-caLL-her-MP fLew to Singapore on Friday, January 22 and we decided to Lurk around in Changi for a coupLe of hours to catch this
BeLieve me, I feLt Like a super perverted staLker.
Ah, this is interesting. Sometimes I use the acoustics as a point to measure how truLy good a song and/or a musician is. Because in acoustic the reaL focus shouLd be the music, not the gimmicks, the effects, the extras etc.
I swear I have never intended to turn this bLog to be a One OK Rock bLog, but those boys are currentLy ruLing 80% of my brain, so.. Here it is, another post (rant) about One OK Rock. SpecificaLLy, about their ‘new’ aLbum 35XXXV Deluxe Edition. If you ask what’s the difference between the ‘originaL’ version and the ‘deLuxe’ version, the simpLe answer is the Lyrics in the originaL are 20% Japanese and 80% EngLish, whiLe the DeLuxe Edition is 99.8% sung in EngLish.
So, as I’ve done previousLy with the ‘originaL’ 35XXXV, here’s my first impression of 35XXXV Deluxe Edition.
Note: This is written whiLe I streamed the aLbum for the first time on Altpress. I have bought the physicaL CD (FINALLY ONE OK ROCK CD IS OFFICIALLY AVAILABLE IN INDONESIA PRAISE GOD) but have not found the strength and enough wiLL power to Listen to it. Even posting this takes days.
WARNING: may contain too much cursing and CAPS LOCK for your Liking
EarLier today One OK Rock (management) announced the dates for their 2016 Asia Tour and since then my pLayList is dominated by You’ve Broken My Heart – Mighty Long Fall – Heartache in no particuLar order.
Yep, they’re skipping Indonesia.
Insert every crying-bucket-of-tears Line stickers I own here.
ObviousLy there are a LOT of WHYs thrown around, pLus some hystericaL bLaming games. I don’t want to make the water murkier, but since this is MY bLog, pLease aLLow me to throw in my two cents on the “why wouLdn’t One OK Rock come back to Indonesia”.
WARNING: this is going to be Long and fuLL of winding non-sense shits.
So the day I’ve been waiting in part excitement and part dread have finaLLy come. The reLease day of One OK Rock’s 35xxxv. Some peopLe get their physicaL CDs yesterday and opinions are scattered on Twitter and TumbLr, and reading them SCARED me. But finaLLy I steeL myseLf, empty the head from any expectations and Listened to it. So here goes..
I don’t hate One OK Rock’s Cry Out. But I don’t Love it either. My first reaction after I heard it was “Whew there are a LOT of stuffs going on here” and not aLL of those stuffs are good.
That’s what I think about the MV, which was reLeased earLier today.
After watching it for the nth time (sorry, Mr. Boss (^o^;) ) a crazy and stupid idea suddenLy popped inside my head. I mean, the pLot of the MV is actuaLLy simpLe but unfortunateLy it was crowded with unnecessary things Like too many repetitive sLow motions and gLimmering things, so why don’t thicken the pLot aLL the way and deveLop it to be a movie story? Haha.
I Love how One OK Rock keeps bombing my birthday month for two years in a row. Last year, the concert. This year, FOOL COOL ROCK is screened on some LocaL cinemas, onLy for this weekend. And of course, originaLLy pLanning just to see it once on Friday, I ended up seeing it again yesterday and today. Because FCR is quite a spectacLe. NostaLgia ran high and I think me and MP managed to annoy the heLL out of some other peopLe by our squeaLing and cLapping and singing aLong. And I got teary eyed each time Wherever You Are is on.
That Leads me to this question: Is it normaL to stiLL be fangirLing at my age? When my friends Left and right are pLanning their weddings, I’m stiLL Lusting after Tubby’s sweater and backpack and fawning over Papa Leader’s terrific hair and cooL man-bag. I just hope The Mothership wiLL never find out what I reaLLy did this weekend (and how many times I’ve seen Rurouni Kenshin Kyoto Inferno and The Legend Ends in totaL).
Okay, anyway. FCR has reaLLy made me appreciate the band more. I don’t care if in Japan peopLe say One OK Rock is a band for middLe-schooLers and juveniLes, I LOVE THEM.
I Love Toru for having the idea of forming a band and how he kind of get freaky in his own cooL way.
I Love Taka’s voice and his ambition to make the band better (even though some of his recent actions are.. questionabLe).
I Love Ryota for sticking with the band and growing up together with it and how he can charm his way into the hearts of some thousands of us back in Lapangan KoLam Renang Senayan on November 24th 2013.
I Love Tomoya for showing his Love for the band and the other guys with his own painfuL way and his megagaziLLion watt smiLe and his infectious Laugh and his hair and his striped vests and his.. his.. funny dances ^^
And just for this weekend, I think I kind of Like Decision.
I never think I couLd see Rurouni Kenshin The Legend Ends as many times as I’ve seen Kyoto Inferno, but that doesn’t mean I don’t Love it as much. Because this is where the action and Takeru Sato reaLLy shine, Like shine-bright-Like-a-diamond shine.
So. I watched The Raid 6 times. I watched Pacific Rim 6 times. And today I just broke my personaL record of watching a fiLm repeatedLy for 7 times (edit – 8 times per October 8th, and wiLL stop at 8)(edit – saw it for the 9th time on October 19th. Sue me). The honor goes to Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno.
To commemorate this speciaL occasion, I’LL just make a post about each and every eight viewing sessions, and I’LL try very hard not to make it an ode to Sato Takeru. But I can’t say I’LL try to make this short and spoiLer-free.
So yesterday I went to see One OK Rock’s concert in Jakarta.
Before I go further, I have to make a confession. I’ve known One OK Rock since around 2011, but had onLy started to reaLLy Listen to them since.. weLL, The Beginning (it’s an awesome song, OK?). I don’t even have any physicaL form of their aLbums, just downLoaded the Last three iLLegaLLy (oops). In fact, buying a ticket for their concert was aLmost a gambLe, because I don’t know anyone who reaLLy Like OOR enough to go see them with me — LuckiLy I found out a workmate is obsessed about them, so off I went.
And damn I’m gLad I bought that ticket. I haven’t feLt that high since Linkin Park’s concert in 2011 (not to discredit Jason Mraz’s concert in 2012, but Jason’s show was entireLy a different thing. His was Like a journey to reach a spirituaL zen nirvana, whiLe LP and OOR’s were Like a body-numbing physicaL orgasm). The difference is, Linkin Park and I have been together since I was in middLe schooL, and we’ve been through a Lot together. WhiLe One OK Rock is..– to crudeLy transLate a phrase in Indonesian– just a yesterday’s kid. But for a yesterday’s kid to made me reached that LeveL of pure high satisfaction, that means they are indeed very good.
And now I’m dweLLing in a state of fataL post-concert depression — even MORE fataL than the one I had after LP, and I’m kinda refusing to move on.
Is this normaL? I’ve been asking this question because it seems highLy unnaturaL for a mid-20s Like me to become so obsessive over a rock band. Yesterday, everyone around me were coLLege students and high schooLers. It’s normaL for them to be hyper, to bang their heads with abandon, to sing aLong and scream their favorite member’s name (TOMOYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA) on the top of their Lungs. I guess their energy must have rubbed off into oLd-me, because Last night I was stiLL giggLing hystericaLLy at midnight, chatting with the workmate on the phone. Those who foLLowed me on Twitter and Path must know that I’m stiLL haLf-dreaming. I feLt 21 again. Is that normaL?
(WhiLe yesterday at 9 pm -whiLe I was getting high- a high schooL friend gave birth to her first chiLd. Now that seems Like a normaL thing to do for a femaLe my age.)
But what the heLL. It feeLs so good to be young.
